She’s the punk-rock icon known for her powerhouse vocals.
But Pink has revealed that her career was almost ruined thanks to a bad smoking habit taking its toll on her vocal cords.
The musical artist, whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore, made the revelation during a candid chat with KIIS FM’s Kyle And Jackie O Show this Thursday, saying:
“I almost lost my voice from smoking cigarettes.”
‘A very very dear friend of mine- Billy Mann- that I write songs with sat me down one day and said: ‘You have a choice to make, babe”, Pink added.
Putting on a comically gruff voice, the pop belter went on: And I was like: ‘It’s really getting that bad is it?”.
‘So I quit and I went from sounding like a Golden Girl to sounding like Alvin and the Chipmunks!’ she laughed.
Pink has never been shy to speak about her unhealthy habits in the past.
In 2012, she told Shape magazine she had dabbled with ecstasy, crystal meth and acid as a teenager, before almost overdosing in a club at age 15.
‘It wasn’t to the point of going to the hospital, but I remember getting up off the floor in the morning – and that was the last time I ever touched a drug again,’ she admitted.
‘It was also the day a DJ offered to let me sing on hip-hop night. His only caveat was that I couldn’t do drugs, so I didn’t.’
‘That’s the thing with me – once I make up my mind, I’m done,’ she said.
These days, Pink is focusing her attention on the release of her seventh studio album Beautiful Trauma.
